I have noticed a shift in the kinds of underwear men are wearing nowadays. Back in the 80's tighty whities were in. In the 90's it was all about boxers until the boxer brief was introduced. Now I see more and more men switching back to briefs. Why do you think this shift in brief popularity was caused by? What kinds of underwear did you wear in the 80's, 90's and today?

I grew up wearing tighty whities and started wearing fashion colors and the like in high school (basically once I got the means to make my own purchases) in the late 80s.

In the early 90s I became a little enamored of the boxer look myself, but soon enough found myself going back to my roots in briefs (with occassional jocks and thongs).

Honestly, I think briefs never really went anywhere, it just became less fashionable to be seen in them. I see a lot of things were young girls say like "boxers all the way" or "briefs look sissy" and boys let themselves be ruled by such things, but I think for the most part, adult men wear what they like and what makes them comfortable.

Young boys and men today seem especially concerned with covering up as much as possible, it's like some sort of puritan reversal vs the 70s and 80s where everyone wore briefs and even outerwear shorts were barely enough to cover your ass (and tight to boot).

I was heartened though to see in the recent video of the underwear run at the university out west that there were a fair number of guys in their briefs

I'm glad to see that briefs are making a come back. I'm intrested to know that a lot of moms are buying colored undies for their sons. Back in my day, that just wasn't done -- perhaps because there weren't any colors.

I grew up wearing white briefs -- from JCPenney, mostly. In college, I started buying colored low-rise briefs and bikinis.

When I started my first job, I began buying the Jockey low-rise briefs in colors. I love 'em. I also started trying boxers. I still like briefs better.

Today, I mainly wear colored briefs, low-rise briefs, or bikinis. I on rare occasions wear boxer briefs or boxers. Boxers are great for sleeping, but I don't normall wear them under my clothes.

ditto to the growing-up histories above -- there really weren't anything but whities or baggy boxers when I was coming along...Then the 60's and 70's provided the first colored jockey-style brief, patterns, animal fur patterns, and bikini brief! Hooray! Never looked back once I had started to amass colored underwear - and I never wore boxers (even to this day) except for the white baggy boxers they issued us at first in the Air Force boot camp. (ugh)

I've a few pairs of boxers in silk -- which feel great, but I just don't like them as much as the sexy briefs or boxer-briefs and short trunks I see in the catalogues and on-line -- and order...

I sleep nude, so no boxers even there for me.

The current styles, especially from some of the Aussie brands, are getting outrageously sexy and adventuresome -- and pricey! But I'm glad to see the array of styles and colors out there for us undies-guys to indulge in!

I still mainly boxers (especially at school), but I love wearing my trunks, low rise briefs, and the couple of thongs I have at home, and sometimes at school.

I grew up with white FTL briefs and I really didn't like them. I switched over to boxer-briefs when I found them (I don't really like boxers). Then I remember seeing a kid at school who had colorful briefs and I thought they were the hottest things ever. That weekend I managed to buy a box of low-rise print briefs and that's when I really got back into them. But I only wore them at home, I still wore boxer-briefs to school.

Now that I'm in college I have noticed a switch back to briefs and so I wear almost exclusively low rise briefs or trunks. Except of course for those days when I want to feel a little more sexy. Then I break out the thong or the jock.

I would say more guys are wearing briefs now... when I was a freshman you didn't see many tighty whiteys... it was mostly boxers... now I see about even mix... briefs/boxer briefs/boxers

I expect boxers will continue to decline with jeans getting tighter and tighter... boxers just suck under tight jeans
